Juror Names

Each year the Cumberland County Jury Commission prepares a Master Jury List from the electronic list of prospective jurors provided by the NC Department of Motor Vehicles compiled of names appearing in the Cumberland County Board of Elections voter registration data base and the Department of Motor Vehicles licensed drivers data base for Cumberland County.

The Master List is provided to the county in electronic form and to the Office of the Register of Deeds in paper form.

For each session of court, the county randomly selects prospective jurors electronically from the Master List and jurors are summoned for jury service by the sheriff.

The information for jurors selected for each court session is thereafter provided to the court system.

Jury trials are held in both the district courts and superior courts for civil cases, and in the superior courts for criminal cases. A jury trial may also be held by the Clerk of Superior Court in matters heard by the Clerk.

The total number of trial courts scheduled to operate during an upcoming week determines the total number of jurors summonsed for that session of court.
