REPORTING FOR JURY DUTY
Since jury summons are mailed out well
in advance of your jury service date, It is important that you call the
jury message line the evening before you report for jury duty. Scheduling
may have changed in the interim and your reporting instructions may have
changed or you maybe excused and advised not to report.
CALL 910-475-3005 After 6:00 P.M. the
evening before you are to report for jury duty. A recorded message may change the time you are to report
or excuse you if you are not needed.
Have your panel number available with calling to select the
correct message. The message will be available overnight.
Attendance - When you are summoned to jury duty, it is important that
you comply fully with the requirements of the summons. When reporting for
jury service, please bring your summons with you.

Report to the jury assembly room on the third
floor in room #339 of the Cumberland County Courthouse, 117 Dick Street, Fayetteville, NC
Orientation - After entering the jury assembly room, the jury
coordinator will "check you in" for your jury service. She will
verify that your name and address are correct as it appears on the
summons; if not we will change it for our records. After all jurors are processed, a
fifteen-minute video designed to educate jurors on
the procedures of jury service will be shown. All juror should be patient
and pay attention during the orientation and video, which will answer
most, if not all, questions you may have.
Upon completion of the video the jury coordinator will
complete the orientation process, answer any additional questions that
you may have about jury service, and administer your juror oath. You will be given a red badge to wear
while you are in the courthouse. Please wear your badge at all times.
Please
bring reading materials, small projects, or any other materials to pass
the time while awaiting assignment to a courtroom. Every effort will be
made to avoid long waiting periods however, some waiting should be
anticipated.
You will be asked to remain in the jury assembly room
until you are called by a presiding judge to a courtroom.
If
you are called into a courtroom to serve in a trial, the judge presiding will provide additional
instructions that are specific to the case you will hear.
Attire - Jurors should dress comfortably, but not too casually.
Remember you are acting as part of the court while serving as jurors, so
dress appropriately. You may consider dressing in layers since courtroom
temperatures may vary considerable. Shorts and tank tops are not
considered proper attire.
Cell
Phones and Camera’s – Cell phones are to be
turned off in all court offices and courtrooms. Court
bailiffs will confiscate cell phones that disrupt a courtroom! Cell phone use is permitted in the jury
assembly room but should be kept on vibrate. Cameras are not permitted in
the courthouse. At NO TIME should cell phones be used to photograph,
record, or post voice or images on the internet.
Emergencies
- If an emergency occurs on the day you are to report for jury duty or
while you are serving on jury duty, and you will be detained, call the
Trial Court Administrator's Office. The telephone number is listed in the
Directory of Court Offices above.
