Length of Service
Cumberland County jury service is a
one-day/one-trial system. Jurors are summoned to report each day of the
week and, if selected to serve on a jury, a juror will serve for the
duration of the trial. If a juror is
involved in a trial prior to the end of the day, the juror must remain
until its completion and the juror is released by the judge.
However, if a juror is not
involved in a trial at the end of a day, then their jury service is
complete and they will be released by the court.
Jurors released from courtrooms should report
back to the Jury Assembly Room for further instructions.
Jurors selected for a trial that takes several
days will need to be present each day while the trial is in progress.
(Except for an
occasional complicated or sensational case, jury duty usually last for
only a few days, and you probably will find that your participation is
both educational and rewarding.)
