(Pursuant to the Policy established by the Chief District Court Judge.)

Request to be excused or rescheduled from jury duty can only be made by mail, email, or personal appearance at a court hearing held each Wednesday at 2:00 PM in Room 102 of the Cumberland County Courthouse. Jurors cannot be rescheduled or excused by the telephone. These instructions are printed on your jury summons.

Jury service may be postponed or rescheduled for any reason to a later or more convenient time and rescheduling jury service to a later time resolves scheduling conflicts. If your reason is job or school related consider a slower business season, after military deployment or training, or when school is not in session or during a break, or after a work or personal problem has passed.  You may be rescheduled one time only.  Jury service is rescheduled for at least a 2 month period and is rarely rescheduled for more than 6 months.
