North Carolina – General Court of Justice

North Carolina’s court system is a General Court of Justice, and is a unified statewide and state-operated system consisting of three divisions: the Appellate Division, the Superior Court Division and the District Court Division.

The Appellate Division includes the Supreme Court and the Court Appeals. Both are located in the state's capital, Raleigh, North Carolina, and each of the District Court Divisions and Superior Court Divisions, referred to as the trial courts, are located in judicial districts throughout the state.

Cumberland County is the twelfth judicial district in our State court system, with the seat of court in Fayetteville, North Carolina. This judicial district is the fourth largest in our state and has both a district court division and a superior court division. The jurisdiction and administration of our judicial district is examined more closely under “Cumberland County Courts” listed in the index on the left .
