Obtaining Court Documents & Records

Thousands of citizens use the court system each year to obtain copies of court documents. The following instructions provide information on obtaining these court documents by mail.

Copies of court documents can be obtained in person or by mail.

BY  MAIL:

Step 1. Copies of court documents are charged by the page. Therefore, you must call the Clerk’s Office (910) 475-3000 to determine the costs for the copies you are requesting.

Criminal Division (Room 112): Traffic citations, infractions, misdemeanor and felony records.

Civil Division or Domestic Division (Room 107): Child custody and support orders, divorce orders, civil judgments, small claims judgments

Estates Division (Room 104): Wills, probate, and guardianships

To expedite your request, skip Step 1 and proceed to Step 2. When mailing your request enclose payment of $5.00. Most copy charges will not exceed that amount. (See “Payments” below)

Step 2. Thereafter you must mail your request along with payment to this office.

Provide your name, address, the court file number, or citation number if known in your written request. Include information that will identify the document(s) you are requesting along with the costs for the documents.

Payments: Must be made by certified check or money order. The court does not accept personal checks. Checks are made payable to the Clerk of Superior Court.

Step 3. Mail to the Clerk of Court’s Office, P.O. Box 363, Fayetteville, NC 28302.  Indicate the appropriate division of the Clerk’s Office on the outside of the envelope, if know.  (example: Attention: Criminal Division) and include your return address.

IN PERSON: [Location & Hours] Come to Clerk of Superior Court’s Office during normal office hours to   obtain copies of documents. See Step 1. above to determine the correct room number for the appropriate division.
