In Richmond County he was born,
One hot August morn.
His mom and dad raised him right,
And later he would rise to great heights.
He had to obey rules growing up, even though some of them were uncool,
But it all paid off when he finished law school.
Professor, attorney, legislator, senator -- he's done it all,
All in preparation for his latest call.
He is the first black justice to serve on the North Carolina Supreme Court,
And his name is Justice Henry Frye, or Justice Frye for short.
Since 1983 he has served the State with delight,
And he will continue to do what's right.
