Mann appointed again to Chief Admin Law Judge
Raleigh - " It is such a privilege to be sworn-in by three Chief Justices," said Julian Mann III as he took the oath of office for the fourth time as North Carolina's chief administrative law judge. Gathered in the state
Supreme Courtroom were friends, family and colleagues of Mann as Chief Justice I. Beverly Lake administered the oath of office. Former chief justices James Exum, and Burley Mitchell previously swore him into office. Present for the ceremony were Mann's wife Dianne and son Bonner, along with Supreme Court Justice Robert Edmunds, four members of the state Court of Appeals, and a courtroom full of friends. Presiding over the ceremony was Senior Administrative Law Judge Fred Morrison.

Mann is a graduate of the University of North Carolina, NC State University, MPA and J.M. Samford University Cumberland School of Law.

The Office of Administrative Hearings serves citizens who challenge administrative action taken by the State of North Carolina. State employees with civil rights grievances often use it. The office has the full power of a
regular court.

Reflecting back over his service to the state, Mann said, "Things today are much more complicated, government is no longer simple." Mann began his fourth four-year term this month. (To learn more about the Office of Administrative Hearings see their web site at www.oah.state.nc.us
