What to do if you are experiencing problems receiving
child support payments due to system backlog

The new NC Centralized Collections system, which automatically processes payments totaling about $50 million every month, has been backlogged since it began Sept. 24 resulting in the delay of some child support checks. Under the federally mandated system, all court-ordered child support checks are now sent to a central location instead of Clerks of Court offices across the state.

According to a press release from North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, checks received between Sept. 24 and Oct. 1 have been sent out, except for those checks that the system could not identify because they didn't contain the necessary information. If you are experiencing problems receiving child support and you believe it is due to the backlog, call NC Child Support Enforcement at 1-800-992-9457, or in the Raleigh area at 571-4120 or 571-4114. Parents can also e-mail client services through the centralized collections web site at www.dhhs.state.nc.us/central-collect.
