Court employees two of few to graduate state management program

Raleigh - Without strong leadership, few organizations are successful. State government is no exception.

For the past two years, select managers from across North Carolina State government have worked to improved their skills and become better leaders through the Public Manager Program.

Two of those, Barbara Dodson of Burlington and Geoffrey Farmer of North Wilkesboro, graduated this week as Certified Public Managers during a special ceremony in Raleigh.

Farmer is the District Administrator for the Guardian Ad Litem program. Working for the courts, over three thousand volunteers across North Carolina act as investigators and non-legal guardians for children in the court system to work with them and advise the court on their cases.

Barbara Dodson is the Trial Court Coordinator for Alamance County and works in the Superior Court Judges Office to administer the case management and calendar system for Civil Superior Court cases.

The public manager program is intended to increase the quality, efficiency and productivity of state government by improving the leadership abilities of employees in management positions. To complete the program, Dodson and Farmer finished ten courses and a project. This is the twenty-second class to complete the program since it began in 1981.

Presenting the graduation certificate to the two AOC employees was executive director of the Administrative Office of the Courts, Judge Robert Hobgood of Raleigh. Also attending the ceremony was graduation speaker, Secretary of State Elaine Marshall.
