Raleigh – William J. Stuckey is the new purchasing director for the Administrative Office of the Courts, effective Feb. 12. He will manage a staff of five who, through state purchasing guidelines, purchase necessary goods and services for judicial employees. Stuckey’s duties also include overseeing the warehouse operations and the print shop.
"Bill Stuckey has an impressive background as a purchasing officer, and we are extremely pleased to have him join the AOC staff," said Judge Robert Hobgood, director of the Administrative Office of the Courts. "In these lean times for state government, the judicial branch needs someone with Bill’s ability and business background to make the best purchasing decisions."
Stuckey is currently serving as the purchasing officer for the N.C. Emergency Management division where he has overseen purchases during three major natural disasters, hurricanes Dennis, Floyd and Irene. He made purchases such as trailers, generators and MRE’s (meals-ready-to-eat) following Hurricane Floyd.
Stuckey was born and reared in Raleigh. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1962 to 1966 and graduated from East Carolina University in 1970.
Stuckey was the director of purchasing for the N.C. Department of Correction from 1975 to 1977. He was director of procurement for the N.C. Department of Natural Resources and Community Development from 1985 to 1986, and the chief of purchasing for the N.C. Department. of Administration, Division of Purchase and Contract, from 1986 to 1989. In 1989, he was promoted to director of the division. In 1993, Stuckey started his own consulting business, advising companies on matters related to the state purchasing system.
